Pray Always, Study And Worship.
The power of faith is what connects us to God and makes Him real to us. Prayer, study and worship are some ways in which you can GROW your faith in and relationship with God.
Here at Yorktown United Methodist Church, we offer many opportunities to help you grow in faith including:
- Healing and Prayer Service
- Soaking Prayer Service
- Bible Study-Book Study
- Sunday School
- Vacation Bible School
- Sunday Worship
- Meet with our Pastor (Email to request a meeting)
We think God is interested in knowing, and being known by, each one of us. And while that looks different for every person, we’ve found some rhythms, practices, and ideas that help us to GROW with God.
We Pray Always.
Healing and Prayer Service (monthly)
An ecumenical ministry held on the second Saturday of the month at 10am. Refer to the calendar of events for worship date and time this month. We meet for a special time of worship through singing, guest speakers and special music. An amazing time of testimonies are shared “there is healing in the power of the testimony”. At the end of the service our prayer team offers to anoint you and we listen, love and pray for all who come seeking healing in body, mind and spirit. The healing comes from the God and not from ourselves. Since we are not counselors, we count on God’s Wonderful Counselor to continue our Lord’s work through us. If you would like to strengthen your prayer life, join in pray together and encouraging each other, we invite you to join this monthly public healing & prayer service.
The Prayer of Faith “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” James 5:13-15
Soaking Prayer Service
Held monthly at 7:00 pm on the Monday following the Healing and Prayer Service, which is held the second Saturday of the month. Refer to the calendar of events for worship date and time this month. Soaking Prayer is a way to simply rest in the Presence of God in a posture of receiving, allowing Him to minister to you directly in body, mind, soul and spirit. Come and inwardly turn toward Jesus and soak in His presence (no water is involved). Often while scriptures are read, gentle worship music played in the background helps you focus on God and experience His presence, experience His love.
“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him.” Psalm 37:7
If you desired individual prayer during this time, a trained member of YUMC Prayer Team is available to pray with you after the service. Our commitment is to Listen, Love and Pray. You may leave a prayer request here for our Prayer Team.
We Study to Learn.
Bible Study-Book Study
Bible and/or book studies are small group opportunities to study and explore a book in the bible, chosen section within the bible on a particular topic or selected book titles. Regardless of the material selected, our approach is to bring life application through study and sharing what we learn.
Sunday School
Sunday School is offered for pre-school through high school aged students and runs from September to May. The children are encouraged to participate in the service and then are dismissed after the Children’s Message to their respective classes. Additionally, special celebration events (i.e. “Kickoff” Sunday School Party, Christmas Pageant, Christmas Caroling, Easter Egg Hunt and Celebration, Touchdown Sunday Awards program) for children are held throughout the year.
This fall, YUMC Sunday School is calling all “Deep Blue Kids” to connect with God and explore families in the Bible. This year we’ll connect with our Deep Blue Pals – Asia, Edgar and Kat. We’ll explore families in the Bible, learn how today’s faith families care for children, build loving relationships, and find out what it means to be a part of God’s family. Sunday School registration for children is now open, click here.
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
VBS is a 1-week long joyous cooperative Christian education summer program sponsored by our church, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and the Yorktown Presbyterian Church. Over 100 teens and youth participate in this annual program. July 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the Yorktown Cooperative Vacation Bible School Program. What a wonderful blessing it is to have 3 local churches work together for 50 years! This year’s program is called ‘To Mars and Beyond’ will help kids discover the wonders of God’s universe. Along the way, they’ll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible, and that God is always with them, too. Add to the adventure with out-of-this-world fun, learning, music and timeless Bible stories that inspire kids to give glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine! Registration for children and adult or teen volunteers now open at: www.cokesburyvbs.com/yorktown
